a bundle of (aurora) joy!

Filed in:

mark my words. this little girl is trouble. sure, she looks innocent enough; but i have a feeling that, together, aurora joy and our own little jasmine marie (birthdays just six weeks apart) are gonna end up making a lot of mischief together. aurora, or “rory,” is our most filipina-looking niece. whereas jasmine has earned the nickname “puti puti” (“whitey whitey”), rory can now be mistaken for a little african baby in many pictures.

besides her beautiful dark skin and filipino features, rory gets something else from her dad, too:  extreme chubbiness. well, jonathan isn’t chubby now. but, like rory, as a baby he nearly met weight requirements for professional baby sumo wrestling. now at two months young and 12 lbs. 7 oz., rory has outpaced her older cousins and entered the 93rd percentile for her age. (compare that with older cousin alex — in the 10th percentile for his age and weight — and you begin to wonder what jonathan and sarah are feeding this gir!?) personally, i can’t stop pinching her cheeks, and i hope she never outgrows her adorable baby chub. but it’s fun to look back on her whiter and leaner days as a newborn. wow! so much changes so quickly!

at first, we thought rory looked a little uncomfortable here. but she threw us the “OK” sign; so we knew she was all right.

babies never seem quite as content as they do with momma. sarah wasn’t sure rory really knew to prefer “mom” over anyone else at this early age. but i think there was already something special there — and it’s even more apparent as these babies grow, too.

this photo represents jasmine’s short-lived but glorious moment as rory’s “bigger” cousin. just six weeks apart, and it already looked like jasmine should be holding rory to give her a bottle.

of course, both grandmothers were on-hand to help sarah and jonathan adjust to having a new baby — but mostly i think they just came to hold the little chunk-a-monk.

also we have to throw in a couple shots from the hospital — the day after rory was born! o, that fateful day. but we can’t wait to see what mischief is to come! 😉
