rain, rain, go away. come again…

on juliana and tyler’s engagement session day!? well, that’s what i get for wishing away the rain the day before a photo shoot. but can you blame me? after more than a week of torrential rain and damaging floods here in georgia, i wasn’t the only one wishing for a ray or two of sunshine. and i got it. an unexpected day of gorgeous weather. the catch?:  well, simply that all good things must come to an end. the following morning looked promising for the engagement shoot — then the bottom fell out.

eileen and i waited in the parking lot, watching for juliana and tyler’s car between swishes of our windshield wipers. i wiped the fog from the glass with a squeak, and there they were.

juliana and tyler are two of the kindest, most sincere people you could hope to meet — especially in their obvious love for each other. if they have one fault, though, it may be that they’re too trusting of strange photographers. we had only just met them briefly the week before while we were passing through virginia for a bridal session in washington, d.c. and now here they were, apparently prepared to drown for us if necessary.

ready to go — and even to get a little wet. all in the name of love. (that’s the spirit!) thankfully, the rain had slowed to a drizzle when they arrived, allowing us safely to make our way inside for the first half of the shoot. (hey, i’m always up for adventure — a little shootin’ in the rain. but let’s stay comfortable as long as possible, right?) the university of georgia’s new student center — a brand new, bazillion-dollar behemoth of a building with a cool, contemporary feel — was a great location. it’s so lit up, it’s almost like being outdoors.

after a while, though, nature called. that is.. err, umm… i mean the outdoors called. (yeah, ok — there was a moment when nature called, too. i just didn’t intend to bring it up.) so out we went. we had a blast! juliana and tyler were up for anything — lying on the wet ground, splashing in puddles like school kids. mostly the weather held up for us, but after one brief shower, these two were actually calling for more! that’s what i love about engagement sessions:  most people start out a little timid in front of the camera, but once the fun starts, it’s all about living in the moment. making great images, yes — but also great memories.

afterward, we sent our new friends to the airport in high spirits and soggy socks. we hope you didn’t catch cold, you two. thanks for the great day! we can’t wait for your wedding!

juliana and tyler are both uga grads. (go dawgs!) later we took shots outside near the school of pharmacy — juliana’s area of expertise. (i meant to tease tyler about being “love sick.” i had it all planned out. i was going to tell him in my best barry white voice not to worry, that juliana could write him a “prescription for love.” then i forgot! oh, well; at least i can amuse myself.) 😛

sure, it all looks like good, innocent frolicking… but then these two started an all-out water war, somehow splashing more water at each other than i thought the puddle contained. (actually, it looked pretty fun!)

it can be hard to get fish to pose — not to mention a turtle. but it was well worth the wait.
