once again, i find myself mowing the lawn, filling bird feeders, plotting out the vegetable garden, and going barefoot outside. it’s spring! and the season certainly showed up in all its glory the day of alyssa and colby’s engagement session. fresh flowers of every color seemed anxious to lend their vibrance to each portrait. it was amazing!
alyssa and colby were the only thing warmer than the weather. after a completely brilliant evening with these two, eileen and i were still talking about how perfectly it all fit: the idyllic day for outdoor frolicking, and two carefree and fun-loving comrades to share it with. we love our job!
just take a look, and see what i mean. i hope the chemistry we saw between these two comes across in their images — because, let me tell you, it’s a joy to behold in person. i have rarely seen two people learn to ignore the camera so quickly and become so immediately relaxed. right away, eileen and i noticed the especially tender way alyssa and colby look at one another — whether through squinty mid-laugh eye slits, or a long calm gaze, their expressions were so rich with love and devotion. right away, i knew we had to make capturing that tenderness our primary task. i think it paid off; the mood these two set with their body language is unmistakeable.
thank you two for an awesome day together — you made it so much fun! we can’t wait to celebrate your wedding with you. whatever the weather, with you two as bride and groom it will have to be as beautiful as the spring.
the shot below is actually something of an action shot. believe it or not, these two were getting this low doing the “twist” (that’s right, as in “let’s do the twist/like we did last summer”). as a former baseball catcher, colby was in his element. i guess he wanted to test alyssa’s balance because he gave her a slight nudge that almost toppled her! here, she’s regaining her balance.. or is she grabbing colby to take him down with her? it’s a good thing alyssa kept her humor about it because, as i now recall, colby may have pushed alyssa off balance another time as well. we picked on him mercilessly about it, poor fellow; i guess his catching days are over. 😉
it was just another oddly placed dogwood, but there was something about this tree’s low, sweeping branches through the 24mm lens that drew me in — like a private garden encircling the couple.
good gracious, those looks.. err, i mean — you know — the way they look at one another. (yeah, colby is quite a “looker” as well, but i don’t wanna give the wrong idea.)
one of my favorites from the session. kudos to eileen for seeing this beautifully casual photo op in the formal gardens!
loved the simplicity with the burst of color here. the only thing better would be…
…to wear it as a wig!! am i right!?
again, i love the angle eileen found on this image — straight through the purple foliage with a super-shallow depth of field. i love the way it pulls all that colorful bokeh around alyssa like a silk screen to frame her.
i can’t look at this next image without remembering the very friendly street beggar who approached us here. oh, i wish you could see the couple frames of alyssa and colby — their always pleasant selves — posing with him like old friends. goes to show how the right attitude turns awkward situations into a good time for all!
sometimes i have to let a little of my twisted sense of humor into the shot. in honor of those rare moments, we leave you with colby and alyssa (queen of the potato people). you’re rockin’ that crown, alyssa! you guys were great! can’t wait to talk to you soon. 🙂

LOVE these, guys!!! My favorites are the ones where we’re laughing (which was pretty much the whole time!). 🙂 We had such a wonderful time with y’all and I absolutely cannot wait to see the rest!!!!
