if i were a fish, getting ready to leave my school — to make the jump from the pond into the ocean — i can tell you i’d feel a lot more confident if i had jeans like adeline grace’s. unfortunately, fish don’t wear jeans. they’re naked. and besides, i’m not talking about the fashionable, skinny-leg jeans that this stylin’ senior works like pro. (although i’d love a pair of those, too. if i were a fish. or a girl.) no, i’m talking about “genes” — the kind you inherit from your parents only to turn around and misuse in ways they recognize yet disapprove of. which is why this entire analogy works so much better spoken than in writing.
my point is, adi grace (as we know her) is very well equipped to navigate this next big phase of life. beautiful (obviously), brilliant, talented, funny, artistic. the list goes on. it’s all in the family, of course (you remember her older sister elizabeth, right?). and all thanks to an amazing mom and dad — with the exception of the “beautiful” part, which is due almost exclusively to mom. 😉
unlike many a free-floating fishy, though, this graduate is sure to use those good genes to their full potential. and definitely with a spin and swagger all her own. we can’t wait to see all the creative ways you leave your mark on the world, adi. congratulations on your graduation! stay true and enjoy the ocean. err.. and as long as i’m giving advice: avoid poor analogies, too. (i just learned that one the hard way.) 😛
