There was simply no other option. It had to happen here. But with busy schedules spread among three states, would it work? So I held my breath and hoped…

Ethan had been the “knight in shining armor” who helped Ashley move in to her apartment when she first arrived at Arizona State University. From that first day, they became inseparable. Now they’re planning their wedding!

From our own experience, Eileen and I remember how challenging it is to plan a wedding long-distance. As professionals with jobs far from Georgia, we knew bringing these two together for their engagement session would be tricky. But when we learned about their connection to Arizona, it was just too good an opportunity! I (Phillip) was going to be in the state for a photo conference at the most beautiful time of year for Grand Canyon trekking. So I pitched the idea, and of course it turned out to be the perfect place to create these images — naturally beautiful, but made even better by this gorgeous couple back near the place where it all began.

Ashley, how do you describe Ethan?
Ethan is a true gentleman. He has always respected me and never put me in any situation where I was uncomfortable. He is kind, caring, and thoughtful; bringing me flowers or leaving me little notes to find just to brighten up my day. He is quiet, but as I got to know him more he opened up around me. He is funny and adventurous; he always has a pun ready for anything and loves to explore. He is intelligent and I love that we can talk about engineering things and both understand each other. He has a passion for helping other people and making a difference in the world, no matter what the situation.

Ethan, how would describe your bride-to-be?
She’s very caring. She has an innate ability to figure out when I’m having a bad day, even if I don’t say anything and try hard to hide it. And she will always surprise me with some kind gesture that will make me smile.
