We have quickly grown to love this sweet couple, who simply exude joy. In a wonderful way, our meeting Megan and Alex felt like a family reuniting — even though we never had met before. Megan’s mother and my (Phillip’s) mother were best childhood friends. After moves and marriages, they drifted but still kept tabs on each other from a distance. Both Megan and Phillip grew up hearing stories of their moms’ juvenile adventures and antics together (giggling over boys in bands who reminded them of the mop-topped Beatles). So we looked forward to this special engagement session for a long time, and we were even more thrilled that both our families were able to arrange a reunion-style dinner afterward to bring our mothers and us all back together!
We’re so happy for you two, Megan and Alex. You have so much to look forward to — and we hope you’ll tell these stories to your kiddos one day, too. Here’s to a beautiful circle of life and love! Now, as clear in their own words, there’s no denying why these two are perfect for each other….

By the way, you can view their slideshow video below, or view and order prints from their complete online gallery here!

How did you two meet?
Megan and Alex met on the first day of band camp before their freshman year at UGA! They both play trumpet, and were waiting outside the audition room in a group of nervous freshman. Fittingly, Megan was talking a lot, while Alex was listening a lot. They were in the same “rank” in band, so they were near each other on the field all year. They also sat by each other at most of the football games their freshman year, and Alex helped Megan understand the intricacies of football strategy. Alex ended up asking out Megan later in the year, but she had unfortunately begun dating someone else at the time! However, they stayed friends throughout the rest of college, and during their senior year they started talking very often and became very close. By the end of their last football season together, the sparks started flying! They started watching some TV shows and movies together, and on February 7, 2014 they had a walk and a talk at the State Botanical Gardens and decided that they wanted to start the romantic side of their relationship! Soon after, Alex planned the perfect date for the two of them, and they’ve been going on dates and having adventures ever since! The rest is history!!

Megan, tell us about Alex!
Alex is truly the sweetest man I have ever known. He loves the Lord and loves others so well. He is very conscientious in his interactions with others, and is always trying to be aware of how others might be feeling and how to help others feel comfortable and accepted. Alex is so humble, and is quick to underestimate himself. However, his humble nature is a big part of him putting others first and caring so well for his friends, family, and loved ones. Alex is a terrific listener, and is always there for his family and friends, especially when they’re having a hard time. He has a kind, loving heart, and big dreams to help others through his career. He has a passion for sports, has seen how sports can make a positive impact on communities going through hard times, and has developed such a passion for joining such organizations. He is intelligent, and he has the heart to use that intelligence in such beautiful ways. He has made such an impact on every organization and group he has been a part of, and naturally makes close-knit friends at each and every one. While he is an introverted person and needs his quiet time to get recharged, he is also just a blast to be around. Alex is like a social chameleon, and he really does get along well with everyone. He has a knack and getting a laugh out of people when he decides that’s what he wants to do, and is very quick-witted. To me, Alex is the best partner for the adventurous days as well as the lazy ones. He is my favorite shoulder to cry on and my favorite person to share joy and laughter with. I love our silly times and, because of the support we give each other, I love our hard times. I’m so excited to get married to my sweet, goofy guy!

Alex, how would you describe Megan?
The main word that instantly comes to mind when I think about Megan is “bright,” which may seem a bit weird, but stick with me for a moment. Of course, accompanying that are words such as intelligent, gorgeous, indomitable, godly, stunning, honest, generous, selfless, and breathtaking among many many others, but this one word seems to always come forth first. What I mean by bright is that when Megan enters a room or becomes involved in something, it becomes immediately apparent. We first met at the freshman auditions for Redcoat Marching Band trumpets, and I instantly noticed her as she made a sincere effort to smile and speak with each new person that entered. With each new year of Redcoats, I would see how she would just instantly become a leader/helper for each new incoming class with her beaming welcoming smile and words. This is also true with people that have known her for years as each party, gathering, church, or other group outing we find ourselves at, people appear to instantly flock to her and want to be interacting with her infectious energy. Maybe another fitting word would be magnetic, as she is simply someone that people want to be around and enjoy the company of. This is also true in terms of supporting others, as she graciously accepts roles that require a lot of spirit such as counseling and social work in her professional life and confidant and even more counseling in her personal life. You would assume it all just comes natural, but being such a bright and energetic person comes at great exhaust and that is where I find myself lucky to be the person who can hopefully and strives to be a source of renewal, support, and love that allows her to go out and be herself fully charged.
