Lauren and Seth’s wedding was so many things. It was intimate and elegant. It was also gloriously soft and bright, set among the autumn colors that surrounded the Carl House, a beautifully renovated country mansion near our hometown of Athens, GA. For Eileen and me, it was also like a big, happy family reunion. We were first introduced to Lauren’s extended family way back in early 2009. One of the earliest weddings we shot was her cousin Amanda’s wedding; then later we photographed her cousin Jesica’s wedding, too. They all grew up together, and as bridesmaids in each other’s weddings, we’ve come to know these crazy girls and their wonderful families well. As they say here in the South, makes us feel like kinfolk every time we’re together. It’s hard to believe these brides already have growing families. (I mean, Amanda and Jesica have children now. Not Lauren and Seth — just to clarify.) It will be awesome to watch these kids grow up together they way these three have. We know they’ll turn out great (and probably pretty goofy as well) with the example of these couples to follow. Each of these cousins chose a beau of exceptional character. So it’s been a unique joy to celebrate each of their marriages.

As teachers, Lauren and Seth met in the school where they still work together! Eileen and I got to spend part of last evening with them, showing them these images for the first time. We’re so pumped about everything they have to look forward to together — starting with a nice little Christmas break to enjoy together while school is out. Make the most of it, you two. Keep each other warm and make some great memories. Lauren, if it’s possible for such a lovely bridesmaid, you were even lovelier as a bride. Seth, I love and admire the way you express your devotion to Lauren. I’ve seldom teared up more at a wedding than at this one — thanks to both you, Seth, and Lauren’s dad barely being able to hold it together when you first saw her in her gown. We can’t blame you a bit. This day was a perfect start to your journey. God bless you on it!
